Need help forming two forces

Postby bear1968 » Sun May 13, 2012 8:44 am

Hello everyone, having purchased some perry French line infantry id like to build two forces French and British being new to Historical wargaming id like some help in my next few purchases box wise.I was thinking two boxs each of infantry and a box of cavalry for each, would that be enough to have a small game? and where would you go from there?
Thanks in advance for your help :D

That would be alright for a small battle. You can also get a plastic gun kit for the British, and at a pinch put some extra French figs on a gun to balance out.

Good luck!

Thanks Grant,im lucky to have a table at home although its only 4x4 so adapting to historical has caused much scratching of heads :D but I think ill build up to what you suggest and see how it goes :D

If your reduce all distances by 1/3 that'd go some way towards sorting the table problem.

You should be ok on 4x4. I have a 4x6 from my GW days. I am hoping to make a bigger table someday.

Reduce distances and the other thing you do is reduce the number of figures per regiment. You could stretch out your forces that way. The Perry French box contains a lot of Grenadier and Voltigeurs so you carve off the epaulettes and trim back the pompom to make them regulars.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help my friend and i had looked at the reduction of 1/3 when we looked at the Black powder rule book and that should work great :D
How many regiments would you get out of two boxs of perry line infantry? basing has been the other thing that ive had a problem of sorts with lol

If you stretch, you could get two battalions. The toughest part would be the command.

I base 6 per base, but four looks just as good - and gets some stretch value.

You might also want to consider magnetizing your bases for maximum flexibility. That way you can tailor your forces for multiple game systems. I have done this with my 28mm British and French and have been able to use them with BP, LaSalle, DSLB, MA and GdB with no issues.

For the command models you could try and shave off the musket of one of the figures and drill a hole to insert a rod to act as a standard bearer.

Good luck

When it comes to basing (assuming 24 man units) I would suggest 40x40 and 20x40 for the flank companies so they can skirmish better and your French can form 3 deep firing lines to be historical

Cavalry go with 50x50 as the book suggests.
It has been made very clear by members and Paul I am not welcome on this forum because I don't bend over and agree with everything warlord does.

Unfortunately I don't care what any of you think...at all.
