Now knowing virtually zero about the period historically etc. i need some help in making this list, I'm going to purchase the starter army soon so would like to use that as a foundation, oh also if anybody already has an army list that they use please post up thanks guys

This site is a great help with such things and, as you can see, the OOB's did change a fair bit, given that in the first invasion there were three separate invading 'British' columns and in the second invasion, there were two. You'd be lucky to manage to get four whole brigades worth, especially for the first invasion, since the numbers of men deployable were severely restricted by the amount available (and, it was thought, required) at the time.
As a decent rule of thumb, for the first invasion you could go for something like 30-50% British regulars, with the rest made up of NNC (Natal Native Contingent), Mounted Infantry (regular infantry detached from their regiments and formed into mobile units) and the various mounted 'Irregulars' (locally recruited volunteer units from in and around Natal).
If you want to collect a force based around the second invasion you have a lot more regulars to choose from, including cavalry and the 'rifles' in their dark green (almost black) uniforms.

Thank you very much think im going to go with second invasion. Mostly due to the fact i'm going to have 60 red coats and 20 natives (decided to go with standard units of 10) so thanks
p.s. does anybody know a place that sells 5x2 movement trays:?
