Wow, interesting stuff, thanks mate. There are so many non-german SS korps, as the turks, wallonians, french (the last soldiers who fought in Berlin!), hungarian, etc etc.

My lad, Tim, has just been reading that book - having bought it during a visit to Station X (Bletchley Park) - which is fascinating, and well worth a visit if you ever get the chance.

Wasn't there a character in the novel, the Eagle Has Landed in the Britischer Freikorp?

You’re thinking of Harvey Preston. A truely oidus man who was hanged from a bell rope by Arthur Seymore. Shame he never made it into the film. But I guess that 1970’s Britian was not ready for the darker side of WW2 ;)

A friend of mine Bill Medland is a respected expert on the BFC and has a web page with a section on it... http://www.bills-bunker.privat.t-online.de/64090.html . H also knows more than I though possible on the Volkssturm. Bill's a nice chap and will take and happily answer questions via email.
