Afternoon all, I want to get hold of a book on the US Airborne and I was thinking of something from the Osprey range. The trouble is there seems to be about three or four books on this subject, some about weapons and tactics and others about the history of the US Airborne but none of them seem to be exactly what I want, which essentially is good reference colour illustrations of US Airborne soldiers in the European Theatre of Operations. Could any of you fine forumites suggest a suitable Osprey or similar?
The Spearhead collection seems to be quite good. The inlaws got me a couple as birthday presents a few years back from a discount book shop. 1st US Marine Division which isn't much use to me and the Desert Rats which is rather more useful.
Those cheapo book shops are a goldmine for military history books, particularly WW2, they also picked up a massive hardback book full of nothing but lovely colour plates of tanks and AFVs all the way from WW1 to the present for less than a fiver.
Thanks @Undave!! I have not heard of the spearhead books before. At that price, it almost seems rude not to buy it! I agree with you that cheap book shops are really good. I have a 'Weapons of WWII' book I picked up at 'The Works' for about a fiver. It has colour plates of Guns, Planes, Ships, Submarines, Tanks, Armoured and Unarmoured vehicles, Artillery and Special Weapons.
