Ortona Battle

Postby Luigi » Sun Jun 17, 2012 10:37 am

Probably one of the next projects will be on the Battle of Ortona. Can anyone give me some information about the Canadian units involved?
Thank you, Luigi.

Well, that's a mighty big question and as a Canadian, I could probably give you a day-by-day of the battle. Its one in our military history books to be sure!

Best book, hands down, is Mark Zuehlke's. He's a great guy too, who will answer questions by email.
There's a documentary I have seen so many times during Remembrance Week that I can almost quote it out!

If you give me until tonight I can pull Zuehlke's book and get exact info do you. EDIT: apparently, that's the Zuehlke book I DON'T have. Have a shelf full of his stuff. Right, off to the store to pick it up ...

Thanks Mikeland, the site is really interesting, with great photographs.

Hello Grant, I read a book written by a citizen of Ortona, which I found pleasant, but lacking the details that possoo interest to people like us.
I searched on Amazon and found a couple of books Zuehlke of Ortona, I hoped to find them translated if not in Italian, at least in French.
I have not yet decided at what level I play Ortona, where a skirmish in 28mm or larger scale (battlefront?) With 15mm miniatures. Initially I would be interested to have information of a modeling right to plan purchases, so I'd like to know the Orders of Battle, particularity of uniforms and on the vehicles used.
Luigi.
P. S. I am planning a vacation that will include a tour to Ortona and his museum of the battle.

That's awesome Luigi! You should also contact the following:

And be sure to contact the Canadian War Museum, they are very helpful with questions.

Best of luck!
