Airfix

Postby Cubster » Fri Oct 14, 2011 1:17 pm

For those with a 20mm/1:72 penchance, or even those just wanting to indulge in a little nostalgia, Airfix have announced the first new release for nearly thirty years - 'WWII British Infantry Northen Europe'.

Yes thanks for that news Cubby.

I have seen the parts for one of the new Cromwell tanks and they are beautifully cast and should build into a a lovely model.

Finally, they've only been coming soon for about 18 months now ;)
Wonder if they'll be in the same material as the current 1/32 stuff is?

Aw, now that's a crying shame. I'm a fan of British WW2 troops being skinnier than their German or American counterparts, because photos seem to suggest that was the case, but these look horrible sculpts to me. They echo with the gangly toy look of the crazy 'Atlantic' stuff.

Not the sort of rennaissance I was hoping for from such a legendary company as Airfix. Their early stuff is head and shoulders above this standard.

Oh dear just clicked on the link.....I'm not impressed i have to say...very thin guns....they all look way to thin.....
There are better available elsewhere.......a strange move from airfix......they haven't released anything new for what seems decades and then this............I personally would have expected better.
I must have purchased virtually every kit they produced in 1/72 scale during the 70's and 80's, so i guess i was a big fan.....bit of a shame.
All my Photo's are now here!!! http://sisolders.wordpress.com/

I worry about HaT. They have decent sculpting (not always top notch, but usually decent) and cover an enormous range ... how can they afford it? Some of their stuff is seriously obscure and can't cover their costs.

I'm really liking all the Colonial and Zulu War stuff they've released recently or are about to release. For once they've got loads of wagons, irregulars, mounted infantry and unusual stuff instead of the mainstay of British Line infantry and Zulu warriors.

They do look a bit... willowy, and is it just me or do some of the poses seem very static, even awkward. Shame, missed opportunity in my opinion.

Some of the HaT stuff is really great, some ... really rubbery and weird. I did Prussians in HaT prior to the full on explosion of hard plastics in 28mm for Napoleonics, and I can genuinely say some sucked badly.
