Dad's Army or Allo Allo?

The laugh track is a notable moan about the series. It apparently wasn't on the first series when broadcast but the second series had it and the 1st was retrofitted with it. I came in contact with it on BSB and it had it then as well.

Dad's Army BUT does anyone remember Secret Army which is what Allo Allo is a spoof of??? Same characters for the most part but played straight and good theme music if I remember correctly. Sad ending as I recall as the Renne character and his staff are executed as collaborators because noone knew they were secretly working for the resistance.

I got quite obsessed by Secret Army for a long time. I actually bought a German Uniform because of it. Very dark and very tense that programme is.

I remember this, it was pretty good I thought, I'd like to get it on DVD but it's quite pricey, I don't remember them getting executed though, I thought some of them appeared in the follow up series " Kessler", could be wrong though. Alot of the actors were the same as well if I remember that appeared in Allo Allo.

Generally extra's. One of the British airmen was, surprisingly, a British airman, Richard Marner was a Russian for one or two episodes, Guy Siner was a German agent surveilling a fake escape line and Hilary Minster who played Reinhartd's Adjutant. There could be others but I can't remember.

As you can tell, I was a bit obsessed.

I remember it too. I remember the women were dealt with in the normal way, tarred and feathered. I don't remember them being executed, but they were pilloried as being collaborators. I don't remember the main actors being in Allo, Allo either. The Renee character was played by Bernard Hepton, who went on to play Toby Esterhase in Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy and played George Smiley in the Radio 4 version of it. The thing is, as you say, Allo, Allo is a spoof of this show and many of the characters are made to look like those in Secret Army, so confusion sets in.

The thing with Allo, Allo - and Croft in general, is he picked actors, not comedy actors but serious quality actors to be in his series' and British TV having a finite number of actors it's the law of averages that there'll be a circulation of the same faces.
