Review of the Perry Miniatures Desert Rats and Carrier

Postby scrivs » Sun Apr 21, 2013 5:02 pm

I spent a shocking amount of cash at Salute yesterday. Please check out the Scrivsland blog for a review of the Perry Miniatures Desert Rats and Universal Carrier.

That's just the 28mm stuff, I'm not even going to start on the other scales.

Cool, wasn't aware that each section only had one bren and one thompson, that very little.
Was this because of the lack of thompons? did the number of automatics increase when the sten started to be used?

No, the basis of commonwealth tactics were (still are) around the rifle section.

Range was far more important than spraying randomly with automatic weapons, the Bren being for suppressing fire while the section advanced.

What he said. British and Commonwealth doctrine emphasised marksmanship over rate of fire more than some other nations. If you read George MacDonald Fraser's 'Quartered Safe Out Here', he states his disgust at being given a Thompson (which he promptly 'lost' in a swamp) instead of his rifle when he was promoted to NCO.
"You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me, it's a full time job." – Lt. Bromhead to Prince Dabulamanzi before the Battle of Rorke's Drift.
