Metal Weapons for plastic figures?

Hi Guys,

I now own a box of German and British Bolt Action plastic infantry and am very impressed with the quality.

The weapons are detailed and to a great scale but I cannot help wondering if I should replace the rifles etc.. with metal versions.

I know the Lee Enfields used to be on the Warlord Games Webstore.

Did anyone try replacing the weapons?

How are you preventing damage to the barrels, Bayonets etc....? that occurs during normal handing of the miniatures?

I was considering it myself to keep the models a little more in line with my metals.

Trouble is, I have not seen the metals on the webstore for some time now.

Guessing I'll just stick with the plastics.
