Gun Teams

Postby stryker » Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:00 pm

Hello all,
I'm thinking about adding a 57mm gun and 75mm howitzer to my US Airborne forces and it occurred to me to ask, what size bases are best for such pieces?

As always, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I go for bigger, dioramic bases for such things. Long, rectangular, or oval in nature.

Personally, I like the lipped round bases that you get with things like the Warmachine figures (can't stand that game). I found some 100mm bases by a company called Fenris Games (eBay shop) which are fantastic for gun teams. I would recommend them to anyone. They are an oval shape and are similar to the GW fantasy chariot bases.

Those do work. I have based my WW2 on flat, so made my own bases out of plasticard for the bigger stuff. But the lipped bases are terrific looking!

Yes. Fenris Games also do cavalry bases in the same style. I use them for my prone bren gunners and Boyes anti tank rifle gunners. They look really nice.

I haven't done many, but I also go for larger scenic bases, leaving rooms for the individual crew figures to be placed on or near the gun and removed as needed.

I bought my bases at a craft store. CHEAP.

Hobby Lobby.

I couldn't tell you what section, but look for the isle with all the unfinished wood stuff. They have some pretty nice packs that are perfect for guns for like a dollar.

I even bought an oval one for the 88. Not sure how it works as I have yet to PURCHASE the 88, but with the new one just release, I will SOON.
