WW II Highlanders? Not very usefull miniatures. (If kilted)

25th September 1939 War office ordered for all units Battledress with trousers. PRO File WO32-11011
Only No. 5 Troop No. 2 Commando got permission from Churchill to fight in Forbes Tartan. The St. Nazaire raid was the last action of a Kilt clad unit.
In 1939 a Kilt costed 4 £, a pair of trousers 11s 4d.

We have the Commando piper, he can be used for all unit conversions. In fact there was no official permission for pipers to wear the Kilt in action.

Early war Highlanders already underway...

For later war Highlanders just use the late war range (inc plastics) and the Highlander heads here.

Not entirely true - there's the little question of the mark of Lee Enfield, Sten gun, etc to take into account as well as covers for the helmets.

I was referring to the difference between Highland and other units at a certain time. ;) And that was only unit flashes and out of the line headdress. :)

We all like the special unit look. So we do Commandos and Para with Beret, but a hole in the head...... 8-) Very very few genuine photos show them worn in fight.

And a real highlander wears Kilt.

But that's the crux, isn't it? There's few genuine photos of anyone in a fight in WWII. When in doubt ask someone that was there. Les Whipps of Commando 9, I think, reckons he didn't wear a helmet and wore a comforter. He even called me up for not having one dressed as a Ranger.

The war memoir I read recently was by a guy who was at Snipe during El Alamein. He said neither he nor most of his comrades wore the 'tin hat' in combat because it was uncomfortable, made it difficult to sight down a rifle and got too damn hot in the sun, blistering the skin on the back of the neck. Presumably they went back on during shelling, blisters or not.

Also, real Highlanders wear plaid, kilts are for the English Army ;)

Well, these days they wear Department store jeans, like everyone else.
