Did someone say no templates?

Postby BA Barrukus » Mon May 21, 2012 2:09 pm

Hey guys I was thinking back to some of the posts I have read and I thought someone might said that there were no templates. If so, how can you work out arti and mortar rounds blast radius? Or granades for that matter?

If you are talking about Bolt Action then yes there are no templates needed. Without giving too much away the need for templates is negated by the way you may or may not hit and how much damage a weapon can inflict. Grenades dont get me started

Why would you need a template when you have a spotter who can screw up or a gun crew who are busy with a fire mission elsewhere. And no grenades do not figure in the rules :?

Interesting stat about US Aid stations, 73% of all wounded were so by shrapnel and not bullets. Stats for KIA's are fragmented but it's safe to extend the rate to them as well. Explosives play a far bigger role in War that shooting guns in terms of taking people out of combat. Guns were about holding people down.

No grenades seems like a bit of a bullet in the foot to me. Still that's what house rules are for.
Area affect weapons done with no templates will be very interesting. Could see that mechanic possibly being used elsewhere.

Definitely looking forward to these rules a lot. Everything else from WG has been top notch and I don't see these being any different. Any idea if they are doing a 'Pre-order miniature'?

No templates is a good feature. My current WWII rules, Disposable Heroes, do not use templates at all. Keeps the game slick and fast. Basically a team is targeted (usually in starting formations of five men) by blasts and the owning player chooses which KIA figures are removed from the game, removing 40K/GW/FOW style arguments over who dies. Thumbs up to Bolt Action then. Looking forward to the game.
