Pike and Shot and Zombies

Postby Wellington007 » Fri Nov 04, 2011 9:13 pm

Hi:

Can anyone describe Saber's Edge (Canadian publisher) rules: Pike and Shot and Zombies rules?
Here's the website:
http://www.sabersedge.com/stephendanes.php

Sounds very intriguing... Is is designed for 28mm? IGO-UGO mechanics? or something different?....

Has anyone here played it?

Looking for a good excuse to use Warlord Pike & Shotte miniatures along with zombies...

Cheers, Matt

No, but have you seen the Witchfinder General rules being sold by Warlord? Their Pike & Shot era, 28mm and occult based. There aren't any rules for zombies as yet, but they shouldn't be too difficult to sort out. The rules seem fairly easy and cover the era very well. There is also a seperate forum for them.

I bought the Pike and Shot and Zombies rules mostly as inspiration for a planned Savage Worlds RPG campaign set in the Thirty Years' War. I've ordered Witchfinder General for the same reason, and hope to play some skirmish games once I have some miniatures painted.

I haven't played Pike and Shot and Zombies yet, but this is what I remember from the rules. The game is normally played as a scenario with an umpire and one or more players, with each player typically controlling one ore more survivors. Stats and equipment for each character is generated randomly. Characters have a number of action points which can be spent to perform one or more actions (shooting a cannon costs more AP than firing a pistol). Each figure on the board is activated in order of initiative.

The game is for 28mm miniatures. There are some very nice photographs of miniatures from Warlord and other manufactures, such as Mantic for zombies. There are also conversions of undead soldiers made from Warlord and Mantic parts in the Rotting Regiments supplement.

Thanks for the replies!

I've decided to buy both sets: Pike and Shotte & zombies along with Witchfinder General.
By odd coincidence my gaming buddy just called me yesterday and was really interested
in Thirty Years/ECW Warlord games Pike and Shotte range and wanted to get a army
organized!

It would be nice it we could get a post (designers notes) about the rules mechanism for
Witchfinder General. Not meant by any means as criticism for Warlord! Just a look
'under the hood' at the rules might help sway potential buyers to commit.

I will post a future mini-review of both sets (Witchfinder General and Pike & Shotte & Zombies).

Now to decide which 28mm Pike and Shotte set to get....hmmmm....

Pop along to Dashingdicegames.co.uk and look around the site. There is also a link to their forum.

My top tip is go for the Tyw sets, still fully ECW compatiable and full of loads of lovely metal extras, for a few pounds more. The command figures in both the imperial and Swedish boxed sets are wonderful sculpted minis.
