New TYW Swedish Cavalry

My thoughts too. I will probably assemble them all as Parliamentarians, I might do just 1 or 2 with the curved saber and say they are mercenaries, or they picked them up abroad in the TYW, the same with the Swedish style helmets. I have already made up a hand full of the Swedish Infantry as a bande of mercenaries to add a bit of colour to my Army. Though I am not sure how much of a historical precedent there is for that, but and were fun to model and paint and add variety. I think, owing to they amount of soldiers who went over and fought at various stages of the TYW there could reasonably be a fair bit of european arms and equipment, especially in the early part of the first civil war when there was a scramble to lay hands on any arms and men to build the armies.

Snap. At the moment, my Covenanters are (mostly) TYW vets/mercs (and I'm happy in my own little mythos of history for my made up forces) to use them for ECW or TYW campaigns. If I need to game I can always condense forces and tailor regiments to suit in sizes of manpower, horses allies etc.The Cavalry, again in my own made up ECW forces, are all Parliamentarians, with a smaller force of Infantry and Dragoons (the latter of which are mostly on foot until I get some mounted figs tbh).I do fancy a little bit of a change from Red and Grey though so this next lot may end up as Dutch/Swedish mercs for some variaton. We'll see.The idea of having a little bit of history, albeit not 100% historically accurate, for your own regiments is something I've always got as nearly a big a kick out of as painting the figs.Characters, Standards of your own creation, uniform details etc, I love it, just fires up the imagination and makes it that bit more personnal. Oh, and it helps that I've never grown up either as well I guess. Wink

Growing up is seriously overrated (so I have been informed). I am in total agreement, the combination of history, imagination and artistry is what appeals to me about this hobby.
