The Dark Defile by Diane Preston

Bought this the other day, CAN'T PUT IT DOWN!

It's the first British invasion of Afghanistan 1838-1842. What a riveting tale. And of course sets the mood for the Crimea later. Well recommended - almost finished it already!

I'll keep an eye out, thanks for the recommendation.

In response I shall name to thee 'A Man Called Intrepid'. It'll tell you just how important Canadians were during WW2 (among many other things) and a few hidden secrets about the Dieppe raid.
