Scouting Cavalry

Postby Comte Michel » Sun Oct 02, 2011 5:42 pm

I'm playing around with some ideas for campaign rules, and one piece of information is eluding me.

Does anyone have any information regarding the length of frontline a Napoleonic cavalry regiment on piquet duty would be expected to cover? Assuming a typical light cavalry regiment of four squadrons of 100 or so men each.

Also, for an army corps with four regiments of light cavalry assigned to it, would it be typical to have all four assigned to picquet and scouting duty while on the march? Or would, say, one or two of the regiments, or maybe one or two squadrons per regiment, be so assigned.

I hope someone can help with this, because otherwise I have to go through several shelves full of books....
