I read a couple of the Hervey books but found one of them really dull and unusually for me gave up half way through.

Though my least favourite of all historical novels series is the Bernard Cornwall Saxon books... the hero Uhtred is just so annoying.

To be fair I think that in many ways historical fiction is best enjoyed as a guilty pleasure... we know its not good for us but... we enjoy it all the same. ;)

As in 'I prefer drink and ... bratwurst?'

Bratwurst is amazing, my fave sausage of all time. I love my 'Bratwurst und frites mit mayo, bitte'. If I lived in Germany I'd be 50 pounds heavier, too many fine pork products and too much superb beer.

managed to find a used copy of this, only read the first chapter, but so far it seems pretty good, to early to tell how acurate but imo i dont care i just dig these kind of stories

I finally finished this today, and have to say I did enjoy it. It sort of dragged on in the last few chapters, but a good novel all the same

I did go ahead and order a copy of this book, as well as the complete set of 'By the Sword Divided' - they should be here any day. :D

Hi gang
I'm prepared to be rapidly shot down for this but I am currently writing an ECW novel if anyone would be interested on having a look. I'm at first draft stage so its unpolished but your criticisms are stuff I'm already pretty aware of so if anyone wants to have a read I can email the first chapter. IM me if you want a look (or a laugh!)

not to into this novel now that ive read a hundred or so pages but im really digging Nicholas carters shadow on the crown series, managed to find four of the series used on thriftbooks.com for a couple bucks a piece. so far really decent battle scenes and the writer is a member of sealed knot if im right. i recommend it for a fun read. not sure how historically acurate it is, he claims to keep to history as much as possible and admits to filling in gaps with fiction.
