Carr's foot

Postby westwaller » Wed Aug 25, 2010 10:47 am

Hello everyone,

I am painting up some of my ECW troops as those of Sargeant Major James Carr's foot and I wondered if anyone knew any more about them or could point me in the direction of further sources for the regiment (if there are any more!)

I know that they were possibly involved in the defence of Gloucester alongside Stamfords, were at first Newbury and Lostwithel -noted in Symonds diary, but was wondering if anybody new what happened to them after this? Was the regiment still active after this for example? Did the whole regiment go to lostwithel or was it just part of it?

I suspect I am just asking unanswerable questions but if if anyone can help, I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance,

westwaller. Smile

I am pleased to hear you are going Parliament. Far too many Royalists here..Tongue out

Wink

Hope to see some pics soon, will you be doing them in Bottle Green for Early War or Venice Red for NMA?

Cheers

Cubster,

many thanks for that...Smilefor some reason it does not contain anything...Frown I have stumbled across this site before and wonder if this sealed knot regiment still exists as the site seems to no longer exist (it could just be my computer though).

S. P,

Bottle green as early war is a bit more interest to me, plus I painted quite a lot of Blood Angels when about fifteen years ago so I didnt want to do red again I have just got back into painting through my interest in the ECW.

It might be a while before you see any pictures as I am a slow painter!! (they have not even been undercoated yet).

As it is just a painting thing at the moment (rather than gaming) I will probably be painting up the papist dogs that serve under the king too... (no offence meant to ye misguided supporters of tyranny...)

Westwaller - how do you mean it doesn't contain anything? Can't you get any images up? It's a fully functioning site for me and their events diary is full through to the end of 2010, so the regt must still be going.

I got that link to work yesterday, but it isn't working now properly... anyway, it was green jackets and a pale yellow flag.

As for your other miniatures, which regiments are you going for? Or are all of your infantry going to be of the same regiment?

And a tip: Get hold of some extra officers and ensigns and paint them up as the royalist officers. You can easily just swap out the command group and fight for the other side!

Hey brownpants,

Good idea!-Isn't that kind of what the turncoat Richard 'Skellum' Grenville did during the war?Laughing!!

No luck with that link, Cubster- even on another computer but no matter anyhow.

I am going to paint Talbot's royalist yellow coats, Stamford's parliamentary blues, Merrick's greys and probably some red-coated royalists...maybe Slannings blue cornish too??

In fact deciding what to start first is a bit of a problem...

My Army started out as Parliament (aka the good guys) as other members of our club seemed to be going for the Royalists (the bad guys). Anyhoo, they all seem to ave decided to go for Parliament (now the bad guys) and I'm lumbered with the Royalists (the good guys).

You can see why the beligerants in the actual Civil War and historians since have found the whole business very confusing...

I'm just pleased to be playing a game that doesn't involve cheesy or beardy spells!!
