Napoleonics with Quickshade

Postby quindia » Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:44 pm

I have recently started using the Army Painter Quickshade for Napoleonics with good results. With all of the questions about painting white on this forum, I thought I'd post the results here!

Westfalien

Here's a close shot of my first model of this unit.

Westfalien Infantryman

I used the Army Painter white primer, then painted flat base colors with Foundry colors, primarily using the "B" shades of each triad from the paint sets. Then I painted on the Quickshade Strong Tone with a brush. The next day, I highlighted the fleshtone, blue, and white with one quick layer. Finally, I added the mud and finished off the base.

My method isn't as quick as the pure dip method, but this unit went from primer to finished bases in exactly seven days. I don't think the Quickshade will replace my normal black undercoat and three layer method, but for turning out units quickly, it can't be beat!

Very nice - and encouraging too - I've got a box of Victrix Peninsular British to paint & your job on those French makes it look as though I might manage to get decent looking finished figures out of them in a timely fashion.

Right, this isn't getting my legionaries finished, so I'm off!

They look fantastic, maybe I will buy some Napoleonics myself someday. Lots of detail in yours, specially the banner.

Great models there. Having done all off those in seven days is very impressive. I, like Phil, have a unit of Victrix Brits. I just need to work out the best poses and base combination and I'm off.

Victrix British...

Victrix

Victrix

Just waiting on the Flank Company boxes to reach the states. Again, these were done very quickly - 5 or 6 models per day.

Wow! They look really smart. Thanks for sharing these pictures mate. Very encourageing.

In fact I will give it a try today (if I can find some white primer..).

Got 3 boxes of Peninsular British. Flank Companies are preordered as well. And a Box of Perry French. I better get going then.

Cheers

So are these three figures pre-dip, dipped and dipped and highlighted? I assume that's Strong Tone too?

The british look also very good. I heard they all play here 15mm, so I won't buy these ones.

Hi again,

quindia's look still better but I thought I show off my first 'dipped' Victrix British:

Next to a 'traditionally' painted one:

And next to what I did while the Strong Tone was drying:

I am quite happy with the outcome. I always dreaded to paint Napoleonic minis. Until today!

Thanks for the encouragementCool.

Cheers
