Is the Strong Tone in the Can the Same as in the Bottle?

Postby Vogless » Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:38 pm

I bought a bottle of Strong Tone in the standard paint jar and it SEEMS to be a different substance than the can.

It SEEMS to clean off the brush with water and I don' get the smell as with the can.

Testing it out as a replacement to my home made recipe. Water soluable would be a plus. Anyone know for sure?

I have never used the 'dips' themselves but the bottle versions are 'inks' so will be different.

I've got half a tub of Devlan mud and I'm rocking it like it's 2005 and using citadel Brown Ink so I do declare I'll be using Strong Tone ink from now on after next pay day.

I do use both.

The inks are the same shade as the dips but without the shiny ness . They also will not protect your miniature either . I have seen our club members using them without dilution . I prefer to dilute mine and add flow enhancer . ;)

Hi Col.

Do you have any pictures of the ink in use and can you highlight over the top?

Cheers

Just experiment first on some old figures.

I can only comment for its use on 20mm tanks and vehicles and with flowenhancer and diluted it does a fantastic job. IMO better than what GWs Devlan mud did . ;)

The squeeze bottle of Strong tone is one of the best inks out there. It dries about 40 times faster than the dip (no exaggerating) and its the same tone. Plus you can paint over it without needing to clear coat.

I like to drip it on the model and then move it around with a brush. The dropper bottle really helps with this.
