It was the big investment in the pots of dip which had me wary - you can get an awful lot of pots of paint for £20. that said it was getting to the point where i didn't have enough time to paint what i had and needed to either scale back the armies i wanted to get, or to change the way i painted. As a reasonable, but no way spectacular painter it was a real change to go to dip (Which i paint on anyway) from 3 colour highlight.

Yes, it does look terrible when you first look at the dried 'dipped' model

Yes, it does look a hell of a lot better when you anti-shine the stuff

no, i'm not sure i would go back to 3 colour highlights - my models look better now than they did before and they take less time to do as well.

It's a great system but by no means replaces the art of miniature painting, as mentioned in this thread its a tool to assist in larger armies and time spent at the painting table.I still use multiple highlights so I still get a good balance between quality and quantity. Im going to use the AP system on my next project which will be zulu's, "thousands of um"

My problem is is that I suck a multiple highlights and shading as well - AND I have a cast of thousands to paint.

I guess I should sacrifice a figure or two though.

Another problem I have is the cost of the dip - cost + shipping is really high!

Ordering the dip direct from Warlord is a good deal. Plus the stuff lasts a LOOOOOONG time. So long in fact that I had to order another can, only because my 3 year old one has started to skin. Lesson learned! The lip needs to be sealed, properly.

I have done a whole Skaven army, an Imperial Fists army, and some dwarfs with my mid-tone, and it's still 2/3 full. My dark tone has done ACW minis, some early project Brit Naps, and all my French so far. It just keeps on going. It's very good value. Same with the sprays. They last forever!

So long in fact that I had to order another can, only because my 3 year old one has started to skin.

I can't remember who it was, but some wise one recommended storing the can upside down so the skin forms on the underside.
