nightwatch

Postby robertn35 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 12:46 pm

Yesterday I was looking at the comand figures of the pike and Shot Infantry set.
and I was thinking that if were a better painter than I am , I would use the command figure sprue an some of the fint lock figures and use Rembrandt's Nightwatch ( the shooting company of Frans Banning Cocq) as an example .
and make a vignet piece.

I tought I offer you this Idea so that somebody more skillfull than me can try it out.

Nice idea. It would make a splendid diorama.

I used this painting to decide the colours of the 3 metal command figures from the Swedish Infantry Boxed Set. I did the officer in black with a red sash, the Standard bearer in creamy white and the drummer in green (like the chap to the extreme right of the painting).

Look at the stunning work this guy has done ... yes, they are dioramas, not paintings.

Incredible! Anyone know what scale these figs are? I would guess 54mm but could be larger. Are they all scratch built?

I have a few tutorials on using oil paints to get this style, but never seen it done this nicely!

I've done one 54mm and frankly I wasn't comfortable with it. I've got vague plans to repair some of my old Airfix 1:32 8th Army models and paint them up, but it's very much pie-in-the-sky as yet.

@Cubster
Airfix have re-released these 8th army men in 1/32. They are now in a harder plastic than before, and a bit easier to paint as a result. I did a box of them and the africa corps for my younger lad, they are quite nice models actually, in a nostalgic way.

Yeah, I spent a small fortune buying vintage bits and pieces on eBay before discovering the re-released boxes in my local Ian Allen store. Bah!

I didn't know about the hard plastic though, so I may have to have a peek at those. The ones I have are all elderly broken ones with the ends of barrels missing that I'd have to replace with pins and the like.
