Afternoon chaps.
As this is in danger of becoming less than gentlemanly can I ask we all take a deep breath and remember these are toy soldiers not life and death?
I don't want this to be the first thread I have to 'deal with' ;)
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul, just have to say that I took delivery of my 3 boxes this morning and they are wonderful - better than expected.
I will be using the three boxes to create a couple of units for WAB with spare minis being based up ready for my own personal fantasy wargame/rpg. The boxes work wonderfully for me for this mix and match of systems.
Also, I wouldn't want all of my Celts to be medium/heavy infantry anyway and some of the lighter armed ones (spear and trews only) could double up as skirmishers/light infantry.
What about those that lose their shields in combat due to a heavy pilum becoming embedded (You got those rules sorted out yet Hithero?
) in them? A nice way to overcome that is to remove the shielded figure, adjust his stats on your sheet and place an unshielded figure in his stead.
Like I said, the boxes work fine for me and I hope I have given people a few ideas of alternative uses.
On the subject of auxilliaries, I would like to see them in plastic too, but knowing how much it costs to produce the injection moulds etc I can understand why they may not be produced.
...I'm supporting plastic Auxilliaries nontheless. I'd buy even more of them than Legionaries.
@topic: I don't think the lack of shields for every Celt is such a huge issue.
Spare Roman shields, scratchbuild, or metal shields. Can't be too difficult.
I am really happy to have these fantastic plastics even if they had no shields at all. And from what I've seen so far of cheaper plastic alternatives...well I'll be sticking to Warlord Games minis. It's a bit like it is with cars, once driven a Mercedes you don't go back to Volkswagen, do you?
Cheers
S.P.
you don't buy a box of warriors so you can scratch build missing shields, a silly decscision that loses my vote and definately undermines confidence in warlords actually understanding what they are doing..a silly, if not stupid move..
Got my figures yesterday and you are right, first thought was, where are the extra shields. But at least reading this thread has clarified the situation for me.

Here's a thought, if you don't like them, don't buy 'em.
Hear hear!
I'll add to that - don't hang around this forum bagging the company. Go find a company and forum that absolutely matches your expectations and requirements. The point has been made, it is a fair and reasonable point, but to be brutally frank further comment is just pointless whining.
One of the lovely things about plastic vs metal is the cost savings and versatility that you get with former. If I were to buy some of these models (which is looking increasingly likely), most would go towards some units of formed infantry, a couple would be conversions, some would be casulaties and a couple would be put aside as spares - to mix and match with the next box set, or to use in my next army, or whatever. So I wouldn't be losing too much sleep over the number of shields, just as I wouldn't be counting the number of heads with helmets, the number of javelins ve swords, and so on.
Cheers

Okey-dokey,
I got my order through on Saturday, and started assembly yesterday.
Although I agree that it's going to be a contraversial issue for many, having assembled a few of the models, and getting them to look like a unit you don't actually notice the missing shields. No really- you DON'T notice. And I haven't started with the severed heads yet, either.
I thought it was going to be an issue, and even got some spare metal shield ut and ready, but haven't felt the need to use them yet.
Just thought I'd add my updated thoughts, now that I've actually been able to have a go at the kit myself.
Cheers,
Leigh
hello all, I appear to have lost my password and username etc, I am complete rubbish! Sorry
Now, the shields issue.
Ok, so there are only 5 per 10 men, could be a problem if we were dealing with a uniform body of soldiers. But we are not.
My take on they way any body of "warband" warriors fight would be very much how a bunch of blokes fight (those that turned up in the first place, so forget your average modern day fare and think football hooligans, martial arts clubs). The front rank, 10-20%ish are going to be the ones who actually enjoy this stuff, like getting stuck in, enjoy hurting people, they will have the kit, the things they find useful and helpful. The next section, say 30-40% will be the ones who will fight, but only after they have had their courage bolstered by their psycho mates getting stuck in and look like they may win. They probably have half decent kit too.
Now, the remainder, roughly half, will hang around at the back, shouting, chucking stuff. (Yes they talk a good game back at the pub). They would never commit themselves to anything risky and will run if they feel that things are looking dodgey. A shield will just slow you down, why bother carrying one when you are going to chuck it away?
Now, either way, shields or not, they are the best looking celts in the world ever!!!!!!!
regards
Matt
