Hannibal's Celts

Postby Colonel White » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:45 am

Having decided to take a break from Black Powder and Napoleonics until after the new year whilst waiting for Simon our clubs GM to recover from his horse riding accident, I am paying more attention to my new Carthaginian army for WAB and this is going to be part of my Christmas break project. Well thats the plan anyway!

Most of my army will have darkened /tanned skins ie typical of mediterranean ( long word for a Monday morning) chaps. All fine and dandy me thinks but what about the Celts? I know from my sources Hannibal recruited celts from Italy ( BOII and the like) and some from Spain.

My queries are did they have tanned skins like the rest of my army?

Was their hair darker typical of an Italian of today?

Did they wear the same style of clothes? ( did they wear clothes?)

Hope you guys can help.

Skin is an easy adaption and most peoples skin becomes darker when exposed to the sun, even when on holiday. However I have red hair so I just burn.

Hair colour a longer term adaption, so still some fair/red hair amongst them - although red heads got chosen to be sacrificed so not good for the long term.

Celts were known for their love of patterns and decoration, so yes expect very nice looking clothes.
