Roman Tunic Paint Color

Postby canadasteve » Tue Mar 13, 2012 6:18 pm

I am thinking of paiting my Legion with their tunics in unbleached linen color, such as the models in the warmachines crews on here. Can anyone advise me what color they use, is it white that has been dipped ? Secondly would a Legion actually have been kitted out in this color ?

Thanks
Cheers

They're white which has had 'Strong Tone' Quick Shade painted on. I know, 'cos I did them!

Tunic colours are the source of much debate. The concensus seems to be that they were either white (i.e. most likely unbleached for ordinary troops) or red, but it's impossible, given the available evidence, to be certain either way. Other colours may have been used, but seem less likely.

Thanks for the replies guys. With 200 hundred of them to paint I think the dip may well win the day. :D

Its the route I'm going so I've used vallejo bone white which is similar to GW bleached bone. Strong tone dip gives a pretty good unbleached linen look. I've only got 150 to paint but as I'm dog slow it'll be a while before I'm done. I should really get some pics up on here rather than lurking around.
