Artillery Break Test

Postby armchairsaxon » Mon Jun 25, 2012 12:52 pm

Apologies if this has been discussed before but have I got this right that as soon as artillery has to take a break test it is removed?

Yes that is correct. Artillery are very fragile. All Break Test results have the outcome that the artillery is destroyed.

Thanks for the reply. If an adjacent infantry unit is in melee do you have the option not to support it with the artillery? Obviously if the infantry lost and take a break test which they may pass, the artillery is still taken off although not in the melee?

They are only destroyed as a result of a melee break test - on a shooting break test they are ok on a 7+

That's just the 28mm stuff, I'm not even going to start on the other scales.

Re page 71 of the rules, in the set up that you describe the artillery only have to take a test if the infantry break, not just because they've lost the combat. However it also goes on to state that "For purposes of this test, supporting units are considered to be such if they are theoretically able to support regardless of whether they actually contribute a support bonus or not".
Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?

Thanks for the replies. I had thought artillery was removed as soon as it had to take a break test. Where does it say this only applies to melee and not shooting?

On the actual break test sheet at the back of the book (or the download). Right there next to the dice roll result of 7+. The top section above the larger section that tells you what to do for the different types for H2H. Can't miss it really. :D
