One or Two Moderators Needed

Postby Colonel White » Sat Jun 30, 2012 1:57 pm

Well I for one think this forum needs closer policing at the moment as it appears day after day we seem to get a new fracaas. I think one or two people to help Phil out would not go amiss.

I have sent Pms to 2 possible candidates and currently awaiting a response. But as soon as we get extra moderators the sooner this forum will return IMO back to how it was, a friendly place to discuss wargaming and any aspects about the hobby we all love and enjoy.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to kill debate and differing views are what makes the forum tick as sometimes it can persuade someone to look at a different angle .But there is a right way and a wrong way in doing this and we appear in some cicumstances handling it the wrong way with personal abuse ensuing on some occasions

The moderators will also be able to reduce the amount of Spam that we seem to be getting as well.

I am hoping that some of you will support me in my quest to get at least one maybe 2 new moderators appointed .

Thanks for reading ;)

I would agree with most of that - Paul sometimes has to get involved and I am sure he has better things to do......

Just a couple of my thoughts:

1, I think we might have to let WG decide who they trust to be impartial
2, I would be happy for particularly rude posts to be edited by the moderators with a PM sent to the perpertrator explaining why it has been edited.

Aye, I would support an election or a Warlord appointment for 1 or 2 extra mods.

I agree with the OP. A little more moderation all round might not go a miss . ;)

I could see the need for moderators but before going down that line just pause to think how well people have kind of moderated themselves. Although not how we might chat to each other in the pub its worked itself out.
Thats very uplifting in a lot of ways.
Its easy to see that the forum 'accomodates people' and recognises when things are going wrong. Healthy community :D

I agree with Carvel, the only benefit is in getting rid of spam, everything else works itself out, no need for moderation intervention in 99% of cases. I think this place is better for having a "lack" of moderation and as it keeps all the contributers on a level pegging.

I'd see the point if there was constant trouble from dozens of users but there isn't. This forum has been going on for quite a while and we've only this week saw the first suspension and in that case I can't see in what way having more mods would have helped matters.

Hi Guys,

Sorry, I've fallen short of my expectations with regard to moderation this week. Firstly, my lad used up 98% of this month's bandwidth watching telly on the laptop. The next band up costs another ten quid, and I don't want to pay ten quid for something which (a) wont happen again, and (b) is only for a few days access. Secondly, real life has been far too busy this past fortnight.

I will talk to Paul about the possibility of appointing another mod - or not. One thing I will say - I doubt if there'll be an election - far too divisive in my opinion. As for who might be a likely candidate... That's strictly between Warlord and I - no point speculating.

Cheers,
Phil

I vote all elections be banned!

I'll second that motion! What we need is a strange woman, in a pond, to hand out a sharp object - that's how you get effective moderation!
