Bolt Action Brits!

Postby monty » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:36 am

thought I'd share the first platoon of the plastic Brit set I've knocked up over the weekend.

basing is a little scruffy, I'll redo them at some point. I've got another 20 to do, plus a Churchill VII I picked up. If I can get my hands on the Bolt Action rules and someone to play with, I might even give them a game before I sell them on! :D

here's Corporal Cork giving Jerry what for!

isn't it though? Standard. ;)

I'll be doing a German Boxed set next. :D

I've always had a soft spot for Monty's 3rd Mechanised Division (of which my Grandfather was a part during the war), in Normandy and on to the Rhine - so first up is the 'PBI', who will be a platoon of the 185th Brigade,2nd Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, who saw action against the 12th SS Division supported by the 21st Panzer Division around Caen.

I've not got a clue how the force lists will be set up for Bolt Action, so I'm putting the box set together as per the following resource

http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/toe/BritInfantry/rifle_company.htm

which gives me the Platoon set up as follows -

1 Officer (2nd Lieutenant) with Webley pistol
1 2-iC (Sergeant) with Rifle
1 Radio operator

1 2" Mortar Section -
1 Mortar (with Sten)
1 Loader/Ammo carrier with Rifle
1 NCO (Corporal with Rifle)

1 PIAT Section -
1 PIAT
1 Loader/Ammo Carrier with Rifle

2 Rifle Sections -
Corporal (Sten)
+ Bren
+ 5/6rifles.

This leaves me short a Section, which I may fill out with an extra couple of sprues from fleabay. Depending on how the rules play, (or the opponents) I might drop the PIAT or the 2" mortar and have 3 sections with 5 or 6 rifles each.

They will be supported by (or supporting!) a Churchill VII ('Indomitable') of the 9th Royal Tank Regiment!

More photos to follow!

Nice looking models. Can't wait to see the Churchill VII. Will watch this project with interest.

Being a Canadian, we have a very soft spot for the 12SS - it's located right under the jawline, and is best entered into with a large serrated knife with an upward motion!
Those dirty buggers were the nemesis of the Canadians right from the D+1. Meyer should have hung.

Still working on the infantry, but I managed to knock up the Churchill last week. Ended up going with 'Invincible' which was the lead tank of 7 Troop, B Squadron. I'm still trying to get a better picture taking format (as per my 'photography' thread) so I'll try some in daylight the weekend. Assuming we get any!

More troops to follow, plus a couple of Bren Carriers and a 6 pounder. :D

Very nice work. Hope to get a game in with you at some point at Maelstrom
