@Carvel - very nice; like the highlighting/shading - have you changed technique slightly? The eyes look pretty good as they are, btw; the red's fine, too, v bright. Good job with the stubble but ... they all look a bit limp around the wrist!

First outline of the shield design on...and I'm not a happy bunny. Ambition in the absence of ability. Its going to take some work to pull them round to reasonable attempt!

Looking great so far, I found these shields really hard to get the watersides on, messed em up a bit, wish I had been brave enough to handprint them.

@Carvel: Ah ... apologies! I'd not thought about the shields (despite you mentioning painting them, doh!); that explains the hand position. What about some of the VVV "Praetorian" transfers, done in white?

@ clive...no worries.
Kept going with the shields despite the lure of transfers. I dont think theres much else I can do to them . cant say I'm pleased with them but not sufficiently displeased to paint over them. Its a learning process I suppose. If we never try we never progress.....
Here they are after some fettling...

Very nice - it's just that I'd got some Barbarian shield transfers (for 10mm minis) to fit the buckler-sized shields from the Celt extras, and they'd fit fairly well - thought the Praetorian ones would look OK too! ;) Didn't see that colour combo coming ... Claret & Blue!!! That explains the slings - bunch of football hoolies!! ;)

Thank you for for the tufts.

The handpainted shields are not bad. They may represent the munition quality field items. I even prefer selfmade items, everyone can buy some super decals. But to do your best and getting better over the years, that's the real thing. ;)

Praetorians with slings are realy a nice idea. Being well trained soldiers drawn from the Legions we can be sure that they knew how to use them.
