First TYW units

Postby MediumAl » Sun Jan 08, 2012 7:39 pm

Not sure if these are going to come out - pics aren't too good anyway. Think I need more practise with this camera.

Might need some advice from those less incompetent than me.

Most impressive.

Fantastic... Excellent looking units... Really like the conversions, the lack of a waling with musket rest arm on the sprue would be my one grumble with the plastic pike and shotte. Love the green coates, I've not done any pike and shottte in green coates yet!

Thanks for the comments.

One other bit of conversion work in there is the addition of more brimmed hats. Woolly hats and peaked caps don't seem quite right for TYW, based on my limited knowledge, so I wanted more brimmed hats. I added more using the scots bonnet, shaving the top to provide a flat surface to glue a sprue offcut to, then shaving that down to create the uprigt bit. Means you can make 'em a bit taller so they look like some of the old pics. Then shave the brim to create a narrow edge and you have a brimmed hat. Not the best description, so if anyone's interested I'll take some pics of the process to show how it's done.
Probably do as well with some plastic card for the brim, but I like the irregularity of the bonnet. Some of the extra musket rests are made from a bit of shaved sprue with a pin - they're a bit narrower than the placcy ones so easier to slot in on some figures. If anyone's got any clever ideas for making additional Swedish Feathers for when I get round to their opponents, I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Good idea with the hats.

If you wanted to save time (but not money)' check these out:

http://store.warlordgames.com/broad-bri ... 7099-p.asp

You get a good number ofthese hats in the TYW Imperial infantry box set, I really like them they have that taller crisper look than the ones on the plastic sprues, a look I like even for ECW. :D
