Roman Marine Command W.I.P

Postby Biggus Dickus » Mon May 30, 2011 2:09 pm

Well, I was lucky enough to get the new Auxiliary box set during the week, and it had those fantastic sculpts in metal for the command figures.I had already decided to make a group of Auxiliary archers and a group of marines with the additional auxiliaries. So striking were these metal figures that i made them into my elite marine command.....they aren't quite finished, still need to do the bases (I've used that gel stuff, very good)To the naked eye the skin isn't quite so blotchy, but the digital camera see's everything and more!I'm working on the shields!!!!!!Let me know what you think.

Roman Marine Command W.I.P

Postby Biggus Dickus » Sat Jun 04, 2011 4:54 pm

Ok then here is the update to my plastic Marine unit, again with a great deal of help from a spares swap with S.P.!!!!I ripped off some heads from my Praetorians (as the the attic heads will soon be available!)They will have blue plumes like the finished command group.Mix of helmets include legionaries, Auxiliaries, and Praetorian. weapons are a mix of spears, pilum, short sword, Long cavalry sword.Shields are Hexagonal (A&A miniatures cavalry shields) and i will be making my own balzons at some point in the future….likely involving fish or Poseidon and will be Blue. I am also considering making some cloaks although that isnt really essential.I have a lot of painting to do so i expect these to be finished in the next couple of months.By Christmas i'm hoping that they will have their own bireme (from grand manner!) Any way enjoy, hope you like, and that it might inspire you to do something similar to expand your marines into a larger unit.

Roman Marine Command W.I.P

Postby mikeland » Sat Jun 04, 2011 6:21 pm

@BD Must have missed this when you first posted, those command look really great painted up. I got my auxiliaries on Thursday, fantastic set, the command are really fine figures. I have assembled 2 sprues (8 troops), half with spears half with swords, thanks to your spares! Sadly I will have no painting time this Weekend cos of family gathering, but can't wait to have at them! Going to go for green on them so I gave the option of doing some blue marines later on if I fancy!

The blue is certainly nice and a good choice for marines.
But what are they standing in? Bases look as if they would walk in a huge puddle of...goo.
;)
What are your plans for basing? Wooden planks for boarding action or beachy sand for landing party duty?

Cheers
