Warhammer Historical

Postby shadegate » Sun Apr 22, 2012 11:04 pm

Does anyone know what's going on with Warhammer historical? Are they going under?
At Salute they were practically giving the rulebooks away. (OK, a slight exaggeration)
KGN was going for £15 by lunchtime. I picked up Siege and Conquest and Richtoffen's War for a fiver each. I think the Napoleonic book was going for £15 as well.

This smacks of a company on the ropes trying to offload their stock. Or are they just moving what they consider to be dead wood?

Any clues anyone?

Wow. I have long suspected them to be "done", but then they will release a new book - Richtofen's Flying Circus is brand new. A while back they had an insane sale on, but that ended as randomly as it started. No sale prices on their website.

I bought KGN in their half price sale a few months ago for £24. Not too upset at the Salute price as I considered I got myself a good deal for £24
They didn't seem to have the full range of their books up for discount but of the ones that were available only WAB 2 and the WAB 2 army list book wern't massively reduced.

As you say, Richtoffen's War is a newly released book so it's odd for it to be so cheap so soon.

Oh man, I was NOT happy seeing KGN go on sale for half price the week after I bought the book.

They have been putting out some really quality stuff, so I wish them well. I just won't be buying anything from them again at full price.

Yeah, Legends of the old west has been sold out for over six months on the web site now and from what I hear it was quite popular. I've had no reply from e-mails and when I tried ringing them the phone just rang. Sounds like if they are not actually on the way out thenat least no one's making decisions.

Yikes, that doesn't bode well. I happen to have a copy of Legends of the Old West. My painted Blue-Kerchief Gang has yet to fight though, as them cowardly posse are still in bare metal.

That's a darn shame, WH has put out some quality products over the years, and since it was never model driven, I think the writers were able to focus more on the rules.

I ordered The Great War, The Alamo and Blood on the Plains a few months ago (£6.50 for the supplements!!!!!), thankfully I already had the main Legends rulebook from 5 years ago.

KGN still £48 on the website, oh well!!

This is a recurring theme for Warhammer Historical and doesn't appear to be going away any time soon. Its been discussed quite abit on the WAB forum and it seems that as WH is owned by GW and Forgeworld there doesn't appear to be anyone managing it. With the departure of Rick and Jervis dissappearing into management world there are no Historical champions left. The current rulesets aren't even written by GW.

Not sure whats going on with the marketing campaign. Looks like they're fitting in with GW policy of stealth marketing but the discount policy is a little weird. Shame because its my ancients game of choice (can't find any HC players around here) and has a hell of a fanbase.

'Clash of Empires' was written specifically and shamelessly to scoop up disgruntled WHH customers and the rules do look very similar. And there's always 'Hail Caesar' of course!

But yeah, it's a damn shame WHH hasn't fulfilled its potential as yet and looks to be stagnating.
