Total War series!
Rome, Medieval II and Shogun II. Middle one my favourite by far, interesting period of time and just an almost ideal gameplay.
Wouldn't mind an updated version of Rome though, might just be even better than Medieval II...

I still got a few of them left. Played Borodino a year ago or so. Lovely game.

I just can't play a napoleoinc game, were 10 battalions, 3 cav regiments and 4 cannon is supose to be "borodino"

I agree with you Gunfreak. Though I like Napoleon Total war it can be rather silly when replaying Trafalgar with 15 ships...

The battleground series was awesome. Control every unit of an entire army, constructing breastwork, resupply your frontlines, stop an enemy attack with 24+ artillery pieces, watch as your attack falters with hundreds of casulties and regroup to hit them again.
That's what I miss about the Total war series. It almost always end up with a big fight were one army runs away. I like to attack, regroup attack again, defend and counterattack over several objectives. Fight for hills, ditches, walls, farms etc etc.. Like in a real battle. Not like one big 'boom' and then it's over.

Then you should try Histwar, it's far from perfect, but it's been out for 2 years now, and lots of impovements have happend.

When the game just came out there were serious bugs in the ai, most of them are now gone.

You can make your own army, you can make your own maps, You can also mix, for instance you can have the Russian Army at Borodino fight the French Army at Wagram, and or you can fight the battle of borodino on the battlefield of Eylau.

I had one battle, I made my own map, and used the borodino OOBs, Early in the battle my cav corps met the french cav corps, and so on the north side of the battlefield, you had a separate cavalry battle involving some 40 000 mounted men and some 40 cannon.
This Separate battle lasted a good hour, with one side chaseing away ther othe, then the other comming back, the battle didn't end untill all cav squadrons were either captured or depleted, From the castualty report, it apears that of the 40 000, some 1500 were killed, another 3000 wounded. So even tho only 4500 out of 40 000 were actualy castualties, the squadrons were still not able to keep fighting, so it's notl like they fight to the last man like in Napoleon total war.

Becasue the cavalry was depleted so fast, after just 90 minutes of the battle, the next 8 hours was a slug fest between artillery and infantry, sevral massive assaults on a grand battery of 120 cannon, it was massive castualties, also a small town became the focus points of the battle, both sides sent in more and more infantry and artillery, soon with in a mile of the town, some 60 000 infantry and 300 cannon was fighting it out, the town changed hand mabye 7 times.

In the end, The french got the upper hand, I had spent all my infantry attacking those 120 guns and taking that village, I finnaly held the village after a 6th assualt, but by then only 2000 effetive soldiers were left, I thought I had it, but then 7000 fresh French infantry came up with another 40 cannon, I just couln't hold, the last hour was these 7000 french sweeping over the battlefield, and I had no one to stop them, no cav, no gun and no infantry.

The castualites were massive, I had 17000 DEAD, another 30 000 wounded, 6000 captures, I had lost all my lines of comunication.
The French lost even more, 18500 dead, 32000 wounded, but fewer captured at just 3500.

That sounds awesome Gunfreak. I love reading what you wrote. It's like reading a battle report from a real historic battle. Downloading the demo right now. See if I can get hold of the full game somewhere if I like it. Thanks!

I bought Company of heroes opposing front the other day. But I just can't start to like it. Love WW2 RTS but it always feels like you got to few troops and one can never get to build a awesome defence 'cause of the low population limit.
