same happens with me and flags-i use army panter matt sparay and at times even in warm weather and well shaken i was still getting frost. Not nice on GMB flags I can tell you at the cost. so now i put cling film over flag if i have attached it prior to varnishstage-works great.

Best Matt varnishes /matting agents: ( IMO)

Brush on Acrylic- Vallejo Matt Varnish

Brush on Solvent based- Daley Rowney Water Soluable Matt Varnish for Acrylics

Spray- Testers Dullcote ( not a varnish and offers no protection ) This is best used in conjunction with the AP dip or a gloss varnish which will give you the protection.

With all Matt varnishes you need to be sure that the product is Stirred and/ or Shaken properly otherwise expect a gloss finish! ;)

I have used Humbrol, and AP spray mat varnish alternately for ages now and never had a problem. Always shake the can well and spray on a dry, not too humid or day.

I always paint my transfers over with a diluted PVA solution to help protect them.
