That program was called 'ultimate warrior' if I remember. The first series was good IMO the second concentrated too much on the gore and 'boys having a laugh' whereas the first series was more informative.

The ultimate soldier......as The Cubster said: The Mongols

I would have gone for the spartans - strict regime/training etc moulded into ultimate fighters but what territory did they conquer? :D they never really got out of Greece.
The mongols were born that tough. Their lifestyle, the conditions, their tactics and ability to absorb the latest technology. Riding 120 miles in a day? living off the blood of their mounts? The 'cold face' ?

They were the best warriors in the world, only they didn't know it until Temujin told them... ;)

Yes, they conquered China, India part of Arabia.

And one day they met a mix of Polish and German knights. Near to Liegnitz. Only a third of the Mongolian force numbers. 1/4 of the Christians escaped, the rest perished. The Mongolians decided to retreat. Strange, why did they???? The awfull food? The lack of culture in the west? ;) The classic answer was the news of the death of Oegedai and a race to the throne.

Or did they fear to meet more of these strange knights? The ultimate Christian answer?

This may be me remembering schoolboy history, but did not the Mongols conquer 4 times more territory than Alexander the Great? Thats pretty impressive by anyones standard.

Usually named sizes are two times the Roman Empire and four times Alexander's. On the other hand, Alex did it in, what?, 10 years? The Mongols may have done it in some 70 years or so. (and it took the Romans centuries of course)
In that sense, I feel Alexander the Great is, indeed, the Greatest.

Anyway, if the Mongols were so great, I say the Mamluks deserve a mention as well. After all: Ain Jalut.

I'm pretty sure it was under the leadership of Genghis Khan - although I could be wrong.

Not only was he a great warrior, heck, he also made his own movies!
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

I think Audie wins. He was consistently well hard for two whole years of WWII.

Clearly PVT Murphy holding off the whole German army with a .50cal on the back of that knocked tank is one of the great moments of WW2.....didn't he start out a Private and end up a 5 star General for winning the war single handed?
Then went on to be become a famous movie star....limitless talent, Thank Crunchy for Hollywood.
If The Germans had a rifle section made up of Audie Murphy Clones they would have conquered Russia by Tea time.

it's going to take a hell of soldier to beat that..............Since Crocodile Dundee is an Irregular he doesn't count so no point in voting for him.
