I have also obtained Brian's thoughts on this book as well as he is a long time devotee to Warhammer Ancients and has probably had more games than I have had hot dinners.
First of all for Eye Candy inside its score a big fat zero. There isn't one single picture inside of any painted figures and If you collect books for this reason alone then I can say with certainty don't buy it.
It costs £28.00 plus postage and I don't know at this moment in time know of any other stockists other than WH themselves. Its written by Martin Gibbins another long time devotee to this game and is a hard backed book containing 208 "browny" pages as per the core book . The book itself is upto the usualy quality of WH as regards the bindings etc. The only pictures it contains are some sketch style drawings previously shown in the old rules book and supplements.
It contains 100 army lists for use the the core rules ranging from ancients upto medieval times including Wars of the Roses. The beauty of the book is that the army lists and points have been adjusted so you can play inter period games within reason. Brian firmly believesthat for same period games the lists that are supplied in the supplements are better used as they contain all the special rules pertaining to the supplement. For example my own Carthaginian Army loses the Oscan regiments in the new lists and therefore to use them I will have to use them as Vet Africans instead. However I will use them as Oscans against Brian's Roman Republican army as they are from the same supplement book.
For those who play WH Ancients and are prepared to adjust their lists then it is a good buy and for those like me who intend starting a new army towards the end othe year will be a useful tool in army composition.
Mine and Brians main gripe about the book is that it has arrived perhaps too late by about 2 years. This should have been released around 6 - 12 months after the core rules.
