What was under your tree???

Postby Biggus Dickus » Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:05 pm

Well Chrimbo has come and gone, I hope everyone had fun ;) ...and a good rest.
Although I didn't have any Figures on my list for santa this year I did have a few other things that where complimentary to my hobby.....so here are those things...... but what did you get?....more to the point should I put it my list next year????

Tools.
Dremel 300....I don't know how I have managed to get through the last 42 years of model making (started age 4!) without one of these......So far i have turned 2 square bases into round ones..but i have big plans for this tool!!!!! ;)

Warlord Paint/work station
My work area is considerably more organised now...and i can move it all around with ease.....fantastic bit of kit!

Books
"Warfare in the classical world" John Warry.....Old, but very nicely illustrated.....I like it!
"The Complete Roman Army" Adrian Goldsworthy.....I like this too......though some of the ilustrations I have in other books!!!! I'm looking forward to reading this.....another piece of the jigsaw anyway.....that's how i look at all books....despite the claims of the title!!!! ;)

DVD
Sparticus Blood and sand...Naughty.hehehehehe
prequal to above as well.....Haven't started either yet...nor have i seen either as I don't have Sky!!!...fingers crossed!!!
All my Photo's are now here!!! http://sisolders.wordpress.com/

The Dremel is brilliant for headswaps, the dentist bur thing lets you hollow out the necks. The one thing I'd recommend is forgetting about the collet things and buy the Multi-Chuck http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dremel-26154486 ... 806&sr=8-1
I've had a Dremel 300 for years, brilliant things.

A multi-chuck?!? I hate the collets. Thank you, I am off to the hardware store to get me one of those!

It's an official Dremel product as well, btw so it's not a bit ropey or anything. I only found out about them because I was in B&Q and the Bosch agent was in promoting his wares on a wee display so I went to pick his brain on the collet sizes and he gave me the brochure and showed me it in the book.
Watch out in Lidl's, they often have rotary tool kits with loads of bit in.

I didn't get any models this year but I did get some pretty cool hobby related items too:
The Roman Army - Chris McNab. Only had a brief flick through this book, but it looks absolutely fantastic!
Zulu on DVD - what collection would be complete without this classic?
The Eagle DVD - looking forward to watching this one.

I did get some money however, so just ordered the box of Roman Legionaries with Scorpion, "Unleash Hell" General and the MAcro and Cato diorama (with the signed Simon Scarrow book). By the time I finished this little lot, I will be halfway through my Century! :D
SPQR - Senatus Populusque Romanus
"Si vis pacem, para bellum" - If you wish for peace, prepare for war

SWMBO wanted to get me the minis but two factors worked against her doing so - 1) she wanted to get me a shop heater so I can work on the Land Rover this winter and wasn't sure of the cost ; & 2) she was very worried she'd mess up and buy the wrong thing and it wouldn't get here in time anyway.

So instead she gave me a 'coupon' to place an order with WG.

That being said, the order has been placed and the following will soon be at the post office:

1 - Pike & Shotte Field Army with Charles I;
1 - Prince Rupert;
1 - extra Saker Cannon; &
1 - Master Gunner.

Long live the King!!!

I also got a bunch of LEGOs.... ;)

Sounds like an excellent 'coupon'! Shame you couldn't have ordered a field army that was on the right side though... ;)

That was on the list, but SWMBO felt the shop heater was more important....wives - don't they understand priorities?!

As to sides....I gather you are one of those who count themselves amongst the traitors....
