I need your new address so I can send that last payment.

All this model building talk has gotten me to thinking....

What's the BIGGEST modeling project you've ever done?

Mine - a 1/1 scale 1963 SIIa 88 Land Rover with over a 1000 parts.....

1:1 Scale Double Decker Bus Restoration. ;)

Want a Real Jeep for when I retire to restore, or an Ex MOD Landrover.

What the Sam hill are you going to do with a double decker?!?!

I just saw an ad for a 1947 Willies Jeep - $1,200 IIRC.

I used to belong to a Transport Preservation Society which was my other interest though these days I have grown an interest in military vehicles.

I have always fancied buying a tank or an SPG and driving over and crushing the neighbours cars   becasue the cheeky so and sos always park in front of my house .( they have 3 cars and I motorbike) .

I should have in the region of about £5000.00 to spend on one once I reach my retirment age. ;)

Complete chassis up rebuild and respray on a '43 Willys Jeep. Same on an M29 Weasel, tracks included. Not mine, but a friend's. Pics in the History forum, of the Jeep anyway.

WW2 vehicles are getting VERY expensive these days, especially Jeeps. One requiring a lot of restoration would probably set you back £8k+. Even for a post-45 one that 1947 one sounds cheap, but US prices are a lot different to here. Slightly heavier stuff like Dodge WCs tends to be a bit cheaper.

Be careful if you do start on the military stuff, it seems to be addictive. My mate has a Jeep, a Dodge WC, an M3 half-track, and two (yes two) Weasels. I think he's nuts but so long as I get to drive it all I'm not going to criticise :)

Biggest Kit I ever had was a Dutton Phaeton Kit car ;)...............I did the servicing but must confess to not building it myself. T'was a money pit. Very, very fast, I think it weighed as much as a can of baked beans ;)
The Boy racer in me died...I think he was killed by the cost of spare parts and maintenance/running costs.
It was race tuned....the moment you engaged the clutch it was doing 30MPH!!!!......That doesn't sound much but try taking it to the petrol station and negotiating the pumps....it a bit like a video game, only real ;)

Downside was....Driving in the wet......No that wasn't too much fun....and you had to watch out for pot holes as you were about 2 inches above them whilst driving....steering would be quite effected...tiny wheel so any jolt sent you acroos the road!!!!
Why did i buy it?
All my Photo's are now here!!! http://sisolders.wordpress.com/

The first model I ever made (with some major help from my dad) was an Airfix 1/72 curtis P40/Kittyhawk Fighter.

Funnily enough, my first model kit was also a Airfix Kittyhawk!! Built mid 90s but that was all the modelling I did for quite some time.

Started properly with Space Marines (surprise surprise! ), first model being a Devastator armed with a missile launcher, whom I still own and use as part of my Black Templar army.

First 28mm historical mini was the free Roman legionary from the front cover of WI. (Warlord feel like doing that again please? ;))

@BD: One of my friends was selling a Tiger Aviator he'd built for a similar reason; I tried it and loved it - took the boss for a spin in it ... it didn't happen. My inner yoof has now been subverted as we're restoring a C17 Cumbrian longhouse - which is why I don't get on with painting, etc: doesn't exactly count as a "new" model kit, but as so much has had to be rebuilt it's a bit like HMS Victory - still has the name, but not so much of the original left!
