Bocage sets have always been one of our favourite pieces of terrain to fight across here at Warlord and War World Scenics have produced 6 fabulous kits for us, combining quality resin with a variety of different foliage materials to allowing you to easily create your own bocage filled battlefields!
In Normandy, the Bocage acquired a particular significance in the Chouannerie and during the Battle of Normandy, as it made progress against the German defenders difficult. In response, the Rhino tank was developed; a modification added to the front of tanks (designed by Sgt Curtis Grubb Culin III) to aid them in cutting a path through the bocage. The German army used the sunken lanes to implement strong points and defences to stop the American troops particularly effectively on the Cotentin peninsula and around the town of Saint-Lô.

Martyn’s Notes
Here are some tips to help you create your bocage. First make sure you wash with warm soapy water all the resins and dry. Then spray with a Matt Black base primer spray (shake the can well before use). I then paint the base colour using Vallejo Model Color Smoke 70939. Second coat is a dry brush of Model Color German Cam 70826. I mix ¾ of 70826 and ¼ Model Color Ivory 70918 (Be careful not to add too much ivory) again dry bush. I then add all three colours together to get a good wood colour for the trees.
When it comes to the foliage, I use superglue. I pull apart small chunks and build the different colours up. Keep them small as it looks a lot better. Keep building the foliage up until your happy with the look and height.
The trees I spray with WWS Tree and Bush Foliage Spray, leave the glue to go tacky. Then rub the foliage onto the tree, build it up until your happy with the look.
