Saker Grand Battery Deal

The Saker Grand Battery contains 3 Saker cannons and 12 crew for only £40 saving you £5!

The Saker was the mainstay of the artillery park. Large and fearsome enough to pound the enemy in the field and also manageable (just!) so that it could arrive on the battlefield. We forget today that 350 years ago in Britain few had seen the savage effects of gunpowder weapons let alone heard such a terrific noise as a Saker giving fire!

Crewed by a couple of specialists and a team of labourers who had to swab the gun and haul it back into position after each shot, artillery were much valued by generals of both sides. Their material effect on the enemy was often negligible, but the morale effect profound.

The Warlord gun team can be painted to represent any gunners in the 17th Century. Don’t forget that cannon seem sometimes also to have been painted in surprisingly bright colours, though we recommend Black for the barrel and ironwork.

Scottish Frame Gun Close Support Battery

The Scottish Frame Gun Close Support Battery includes 3 Frame guns and 9 crew for £25 saving you £5!

Scotland might not have been one of the richest lands in Europe, but when its well-organised army marched to war, it went well equipped with artillery in quantity and in many forms.

The Frame gun was a Scots favourite. Small and compact and easy to manoeuvre, frame guns come in all shapes and sizes. They could be simple barreled, double-barreled or even quadruple barreled as is our Warlord gun!

They could be towed by mules, packed in carts or dismantled and carried by pack animals, making them very versatile, as artillery was frequently lost on campaigns or reaching the battlefield too late to make a difference.

Frame guns could fire round shot or hail shot and would be able to keep up a quick rate of fire. Scots armies seemed to field many of these useful machines of destruction, indeed some people called small guns such as these ‘murderers’.

We imagine that Montrose may well have picked up some of these on a campaigns though he did not record so doing, in his many victories against the Government forces.

Thirty Years War Army

Warlord have put together a terrific deal that enables you to raise your Tercios and Brigades with ease!

Choose between Imperialists or Swedish. with either Gustavus, the Swedish King, or Imperial Commander Wallenstein to lead your men into battle.

The three foot regiments are a blaze of colour with their highly coloured flags marking them out in the line. They are closely supported by a brigade of Cuirassiers which can serve for both sides and a seperate lighter cavalry unit to be used as harquebusiers.

A Saker cannon is there as some long range firepower.

Finally we have placed either dragoons, used by both armies, or mercenary Scots, most likely to be found in the Swedish service.

Whichever army you chose , they will look great on the table top and can be added to as you build your army…
